Recent ActivityHydroponic Gardening challenges students with the prospect of growing plants without soil. Students are working in a hands-on environment and are able to observe and measure root systems, as well as the above ground plant structures while the experiment is being conducted. Students will be able to define the essentials for plant growth, and will come to realize the impact of costs for shipping, fertilizing, pest management, harvesting and storage on the environment. Students will be able to control growing factors such as light, temperature, humidity, etc. Hydroponic gardening eliminates the need for weeding and eliminates pests or soil-borne diseases.
Group Announcements AFCEA BELVOIR CHAPTERawards Graham Park Middle School a $2500 grant to purchase additional plants to increase the offerings for sale at the farmers market the students will set up in the spring. This includes purchasing equipment such as growing units, soil and temperature probes, self-timing irrigation, pH solution, solar panels for lighting and exhaust, and germination stations.
